Phenotype

pleiotropic mutation that strongly affects both vegetative and reproductive development; rosette leaves prior to bolting appear normal; as bolting begins, the youngest rosette leaves progressively become abnormally large and distorted or uneven in shape; cauline leaves are longer and narrower than wt, are curved downward (revolute) along their longitudinal axes and have rolled-under margins; secondary and axillary shoots frequently fail to develop in both rosette and cauline axils, which may either be empty or contain small filamentous structures usually bearing branched trichomes; both the leaves and the primary shoots are often darker green than wt; stems are thick; few fertile flowers are produced, but most floral meristems either form sterile flowers missing pistils and stamens or filamentous structures that resemble abortive pedicels; backcrossed 3 times.
